June 2010 - Decision to dissolve the former Evangelical Lutheran Women’s organization was voted upon by the National Board of Directors. ELW would cease to exist by year’s end. Announcements were sent out to Synodical Boards, Congregational Presidents etc. A trust fund was established by the former board with moneys remaining from the dissolution of the national body.
With a grant made possible from the Bishop, the former ELW Synodical Board was able to meet in September of 2011 to discern what the future would be for Women’s Groups in the Eastern Synod.
It was decided that we needed to keep things as simple as possible. Thus we proposed to put in place a Ministry Director, with a committee under the Ministry Director comprised of either an elected or appointed member from each conference. Cathy Calvin was appointed the first Women's Ministry Director in 2011 and is still in that position today.
A team of women from around the Eastern Synod help to plan events and promote projects and additional leadership and learning opportunities.
